***This workshop has been moved to Thursday, the 10th of July (in the artists studio) so that I may take some of the Friday workshops. See you in class!!!

Papermaking is so much more than writing paper! This workshop will show how to make paper for writing and painting, but that's just the beginning! Learn to make sculpted papers and using paper for sculpting!

This day-long workshop will start out with the basics and move quickly to embossing, casting techniques and sculpting techniques. Participants will get an overview of each technique in the morning and have a variety of beautiful recycled and plant fibers with which to experiment with in the afternoon. The complexity of the class will be tailored to the experience of its' participants.

Workshop instructor, Laura Murphy, has been making paper for eight years. She has a BA in painting and art history and an MA in Open Media, with emphasis in fibers and in ceramics. Murphy's Thesis Show was a visual feast of found objects, freeform knitting and crochet and... 15 foot sculpted paper walls.

Murphy currently teaches Art Appreciation and Art History at Adams State College in Alamosa, Colorado. She is a member of the Board of Directors for both the Monte Vista Chamber of Commerce and the Monte Arts Council. She is also co-founder of the SLV Folk Arts and Fiber Festival.

Visit Murphy's website for the very basics on how to make recycled paper!
